311,879. Macdonald, F., and Metropolitan Machinists Co., Ltd. March 26, 1928. Mattresses. - Relates to means for connecting the upper end of vertical springs, forming part of an anti-sagging support to a mattress surface and consists of a bolt passed through a washer and the mattress surface into a nut or its equivalent carried by the spring. In the construction shown, the upper end of each spring is provided with cross strips f, with short strengthening strips g, having at the centre a tapped hole to receive a bolt h<1> passed through a suitable shaped washer l and the mattress surface j. A look nut b is provided. In the case of a small mesh mattress surface, a circular washer may be used. A washer of soft material may be interposed between the washer l and the mattress surface. In a modification, the end of the spring may be turned inwards to form a central eye which may be tapped or embrace a nut.
