Abstract
311,693. Hosmer, F. E. May 14, 1928, [Convention date]. Natural gas, utilizing.-In a process for recovering gasoline from natural gas, the gas is first cooled to condense volatile constituents and caused to commingle with the condensates so as to be saturated therewith and then subjected to refrigeration. The gas enters a tower 10 through an inlet pipe 11 and after passing a number of distributing plates 12 is cooled by contact with a coil 13 containing ammonia or other refrigerant under pressure. Liquid constituents fall back through the bubble plates 12 and are partially evaporated by contact with gas which is cooled and saturated with condensates. The gas passing through a second series of bubble plates 14 is treated with a stream of brine or calcium chloride solution which is pumped from a reservoir 15. After giving up some water to the cold gas the brine washes the condensates down through the plates 12, picking up water from incoming gas. Gasoline separated from the brine in the reservoir is removed through a pipe 20. To effect a fractional extraction of a gasoline, a bye-pass 21 may lead condensate into a separator 22 whence gasoline is trapped off and brine returned to the tower. In an example of treating gas under about 30 lbs. pressure to obtain a gasoline which includes constituents ordinarily condensing at -35‹ F., the operation is effected at -15‹ to-20‹ F.
