311,382. Metz Laboratories, Inc., H. A., (Assignees of Pitkin, G. P., and Hooper, C. W.). May 10, 1928, [Convention date]. Grant of Patent refused. Medicines for internal use.-Spinal anaesthetic solutions which will not mix with the spinal fluid until the anaesthetic has been absorbed are obtained by the incorporation therein of a glue-like, adhesive of vegetable origin, such as gliadin or like alcohol-soluble cereal protein. Anaesthetic specified are p. amino-benzoyl-diethyl-amino-ethanol and its hydrochloride, the hydrochloride of diethyl-aminopropyl-cinnamate, and the hydrochloride of pamino-benzoyl-dimethyl-amino-methyl isobutanol. Suitable solutions in distilled water contain 5 to 10 per cent of the anaesthetic, 0.03 to 0.06 per cent of gliadin, 10 to 16 per cent ethyl alcohol. The gliadin may be replaced, either wholly or in part, by a mucilage prepared by prolonged boiling of wheat flour suspended in a gauze bag in water and taking the clear supernatant mucilaginous liquid. When such mucilage wholly replaces the gliadin, alcohol may be omitted from the anaesthetic solution. The solutions are sealed in ampoules and sterilized by repeated brief immersion in boiling water or by a single treatment in an autoclave.
