Combing-machines-In an arrangement for weighting the top detaching- roller in a Nasmith combing-machine in which, as described in Specification 189,363, the pressure is reduced when no detaching is taking place, springs are dispensed with and positive weighting-means comprising a weight or weights is employed. The weighthook H is pivoted on a pin 1 and is rocked by the link N from the shaft R. An articulated weighting-lever w, W is suspended from a tail T on the weight-hook, and a stud 13 on a lever K pivoted on the pin 1. The weights 12 are arranged near the point of articulation. The lever K is supported by a knife-edge 17 from a pendent swinging arm 5. The stud 13 is adjustable. In the position shown in full line, when the greatest pressure is required, the parts are so arranged that the lever w, W is horizontal. When the parts swing to carry the roller d towards the comb cylinder C, the tail T and arm 5 swing to allow the lever w, W to fall, the weights to descend and the pressure to be reduced. The lever K may be lifted to take the knife-edge from its support to relieve the rollerd from the weights. The lever K may be dispensed with and the movement of the lever w, W be obtained solely from the tail T. The movement of the tail may be arranged to be so slight that the movement of the lever w, W depends on that of the lever K.
