Weighing-apparatus fitted to lifting-apparatus; hydrostatic apparatus.-Weighing-apparatus for recording or indicating the gross or nett weights lifted by a crane, derrick, or transporter &c. comprises means for forming a V in a flexible member to which a force due to the load is transmitted, means for transmitting a force proportional to the component of the force due to the load, in the direction of the axis of the V, means for applying the transmitted force to a second flexible member at a point between the ends thereof to form a V, or to vary the formation of a V in the second member, means for placing the second flexible member under constant tension and means for recording or indicating the movement of the second flexible member in a direction parallel to the axis of the V therein, the whole arrangement being such that the movement is directly proportional to the force in the firstmentioned flexible member. The hoisting or travelling rope 4, Fig. 1, is led over pulleys 2, 3, 1 the centre pulley 3 being mounted on guides 6 connected to the piston of a hydraulic cylinder 10. The hydraulic cylinder communicates by a pipe 13 with an indicator cylinder 24, Fig. 5, which is also connected by a pipe 23 with an accumulator cylinder 15, Fig. 3, loaded by weights 21. The accumulator cylinder 15 may be replenished with fluid by means of a hand pump connected to a pipe 22. The plunger 25 of the indicator cylinder engages a wire 35 secured at one end 36, passing over jockey pulleys 39 and maintained at constant tension by weights 42. The wire is deflected laterally until the pressure in the indicator cylinder is balanced. To measure this deflection, the plunger 25 is connected to an arm pivoted on a pin 44 carrying a toothed quadrant 46 which actuates a counter 52 indicating the weight of the load being raised and the total of the loads raised. When used with a grab, its control gear may be connected bv a wire or rod 32 to a lever 31 so as) slowly to close a cock 30 under the control of a dash-pot 33 and thus prevent irregular movements of the weighing mechanism due to variations in the stress of the lifting ropes after the weight has been registered. The pivot 44 of the quadrant 46 is adjustably mounted on a movable plate 45<1> and the counter 52 may be correspondingly adjusted.
