Abstract

310,925. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Whitney, W. R.). May 3, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Heating by electricity.-Heating is effected by currents induced by a high frequency electrostatic field. The method may be used in cooking, baking, drying laundry, wood, or porcelain, pasteurizing milk in bottles, and in creating artificial fever in the human body. Frequencies of from twenty to fifty million cycles are referred to. The body to be heated is placed between adjustable plates 11, 12 connected to the grid 15 and plate 16 of an electron discharge device 14, inductances 17, 18, a capacity 19, and an ammeter 29 being included in the circuit. The filament 20 is supplied with current by a transformer 21. The positive side of a D.C. supply at 500 volts is connected to the plate 16, and. the negative side is connected to a tap 24 on the transformer secondary and to the grid 15.
