Abstract
310,122. Mittell, B. E. G., and Gramophone Co., Ltd. Feb. 15, 1928. Producing or simulating echo effect in recording; records, duplicating.-A method of recording sound consists in reproducing in a suitable hall sound from an existing record, and recording the reproduced sounds, together with the reverberation effects produced by the hall, by means of, a recording apparatus which may be operated from one or more microphones located at a suitable distance from the source of the reproduced sounds. The hall is selected to suit the character of the sounds which are to be re-recorded, and the reverberation effects may be adjusted by providing suitable hangings. Preferably the reproduction from the original record is effected electrically, with the use of one or more loud-speakers. If desired, sounds, such as a musical accompaniment, additional to those reproduced from the original record, may be recorded upon the final record. Further, electrical oscillations may be directly derived from the original record, and after suitable amplification and, if desired, after modification, may be superposed upon the electrical oscillations derived from the microphones as described above. In this way, two sets of oscillations, one of which is characterized by reverberation effects produced in the air, are combined to produce the final record.
