[Class 40 (ii).] Sound grooves and traces; horns, multiple arrangement of; multiple machines.-Two complementary aural impressions from different standpoints with reference to the source of the original sounds are recorded simultaneously on a revolving disc or discs. The sounds are reproduced from the records simultaneously from two different positions in relation to the audience. As shown, sounds received by microphones 3, 4, placed in different positions with respect to an orchestra 1, 2, are recorded on two disc records 12, 12a, Fig. 4, or on different tracks 6, 6a, Fig. 3, on a single disc record 5. The two records are reproduced simultaneously, the sound from one record being reflected from a board 10, Fig. 2, into the auditorium 9, and that from the other record from a board 10a. When the sounds are recorded on a single record disc the separate recording grooves commence at diametrically opposite points, and reproduction is obtained bv use of a machine with two sound boxes 7, 7a, and two oppositely directed sound amplifying conduits 8, 8a. The sound reproducing means are separated from the auditorium 9 by a screen 11 which may be the screen for exhibiting moving pictures. The Provisional Specification describes stereophonic recording and reproducing by the use of cylindrical records or photographic records.
