Azo dyes and soluble chromium compounds thereof. - Soluble chromium compounds of azo dyestuffs are obtained by treating with an agent yielding chromium the azo dyestuffs produced by coupling diazotized 2-aminophenol-4: 6-disulphonic acid with unsulphonated 1-aryl-5-pyrazo. lones. The products have good equalizing properties and good fastness to washing and fulling. In an example the dyestuff 2- aminophenol-4: 6-disulphonic acid # 1-phenyl- 3-methyl-5-pyrazolone is boiled under reflux with a solution of chromium fluoride; the product dyes wool fast orange tints from a sulphuric acid bath. and similar orange to red and violet dyeings are obtained with the chromium compounds of the corresponding dyestuffs having as coupling components 1 - (3<1>-sulphamido)phenyl-3-methyl-5- pyrazolone, 1-(3<1>-carboxy-4<1>-oxy)phenyl-3-methyl 5-pyrazolone, or 1-(3<1>-carboxy-4<1>-oxy)phenyl-5 pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid. An example of the dyeing process is given. 2-Aminorohenol-4 6-disulphonic acid is obtained by the reduction of 2-nitrophenol-4-sulphonic acid by means of bisulphite. 1 - - (3<1>-Carboxy-4<1>-oxy)phenyl-3-methyl (or 3- carboxy)-5-pyrazolone is obtained by condensation of 1-oxy-2-carboxy-4-hydrazinobenzene with aceto. acetic (or oxalacetic) ester). The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of unsulphonated coupling components other than 1-aryl- 5-pyrazolones, the use of arylides of 2: 3-oxynaphthoic acid, of resorcinol, and of #-naphthol being specified. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
