309,562. Burke Golf Co., (Assignees of Turner, A.). April 13, 1928, [Convention date]. Coating-machines. - A machine for distributing a coating of paint &c. on balls, particularly golf balls, comprises a ballsupport or disc 5, rotated by a motor 2, and about which are a series of posts 6, forming a cage in which the ball is free to rotate, and is permitted limited upward movement. The upper ends of the posts have rotatable arms 8, pivoted out of centre, so that when the cage is rotated, the heavier ends swing outwards as shown, the shorter ends confining the ball within the cage. When stationary the ball rests on a pin 10. In operation, the arms are moved to enable the ball, dipped in paint and still wet, to be placed within the posts. On rotating the cage, the surplus paint is thrown off and drains away by a channel 4.
