Light-valves. - In a sound-recording system wherein the intensity of a beam of polarized light is modulated by means of a piezo-electric crystal, the crystal is so mounted that it is subject to mechanical damping. The object is to ensure that the crystal will respond efficiently to the higher sideband frequencies of an applied carrier wave modulated with currents of acoustic frequency.
