Abstract

308,583. Weingartner, A. E. March 23, 1928, [Convention date]. Pneumatic conveyers. - Relates to air supply control systems for furnaces of the kind described in Specification 308,208 and comprises modified arrangements of levers for connecting the air control boxes consisting, as shown in Fig. 1, for application to three adjacent air control boxes, of a primary lever 61 pivoted at 62 to one end of a supplementary lever 91 the other end of which is connected by a link 60 to the motor blades of an air control box, the primary lever 61 being also connected by links 60 to the blades of adjacent boxes. This arrangement of levers may be applied to one or both ends of the main lever described in the prior Specification referred to for application to five or six air control boxes. Fig. 4 shows a further arrangement of floating levers 95, 95<a>, 95<g> and 96 interconnecting the control boxes a - - g, the blades of adjacent boxes being connected at opposite sides. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) each control box, defined by side walls 6 and tuyeres 7, Fig. 1, (Cancelled) is divided into a number of control compartments 27 each containing a pair of motor " plates affected, as described in the prior Specification, by pressure resistance in the corresponding compartment and connected to control dampers. As shown in the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 2 (Cancelled) which is a section on the line 2-2, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), motor plates 43 of adjacent compartments are connected to a floating lever 61 centrally pivoted to a main lever 63 centrally pivoted at 64. Thus on outward movement of the plates 43 in, say, compartment b, due to the fire burning thin above that compartment in the manner described in Specification 308,208, an inward pressure is transmitted to the plates 43 in the coupled compartment a and, in virtue of such resistance as is offered in compartment a to this movement, is also transmitted via the lever 63 to the plates of the other compartments c, d. Fig. 11 (Cancelled) shows how the interconnection may be extended to embrace all the tuyere boxes of the grate by means of interconnected floating levers 75<a> introduced between the levers 61, 63. As regards constructional detail, the main lever 64 is an open-work structure, Fig. 1 (Cancelled) and the levers 61 are flat plates received within its ends, the pivots 64, 62 being thus normally in accurate alignment. The pivot 64 for each lever 63 comprises a pair of hardened steel plugs adapted to holes in the lever hub 35, Fig. 3 (Cancelled) and engaging conical ended pivot pins 46 threaded into arms 47 integral with a plate 48 secured by a bolt 49 and adjusting clamp screws 50 to the beam member 28 of the supporting framework. The levers 61 are somewhat similarly mounted in the ends of the lever 63, Fig. 4 (Cancelled). The connection between a lever 61 and its plates 43, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), comprises a coupling link with right and left hand screw adjustment, one.end of the link being screwed into a ball 83 enclosed by two concaved plates riveted over an opening in the plate 43. Various applications of the invention, such as to conveyers, are referred to in the prior Specification 308,208 as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
