Abstract
308,578. Ingersoll-Rand Co., (Assignees of Zimmermann, W. F.). March 23, 1928, [Convention date]. Percussive drills.-In percussive tools in which the handle is secured to the barrel by a screw thread, a spring is provided to prevent the handle becoming unscrewed due to vibration. The handle C, which is secured to the barrel A by the engagement of the threads E and F carries a lug S, which forms an abutment for the end T of the spring U. The other end V of the spring abuts against the lug W on a ring X which, when in position, fits round the cylindrical portion H of the barrel, and bears on its inner surface notches Y. In assembling the device, the handle is first screwed into place on the barrel, the spring U is put into position, and placed in compression by revolving the ring X around the barrel, and the ring is then secured in place by inserting the pin b in a pair of registering grooves Y and Z, the latter, formed on the barrel, being slightly less in number than the grooves Y.
