Apparatus for making filaments. - A dryspinning cell or cells is associated with a circulatory system such that the admission of air to each cell and the temperature and solvent vapour content of the admitted air are all regulable, while the bulk of the solvent is recovered. As shown, a cell A, which may be one of a series, has an air inlet B and an air outlet C controlled by connected valves E, F. A fan H, regulable through a bye-pass and a valve HI, draws air from the cell or cells into a collector G and propels it through a heater K, part of the air passing directly through the heater and the remainder passing first through a condenser I. Valves L, M, N are provided to regulate the flow. The air passes from the heater to a distributor G1 and thence through separate heaters U into the cells. A part of the air leaving the condenser I is withdrawn through a valve P to an absorption recovery apparatus for the solvent, to which apparatus suction slots near the ports D in the cells are also connected by pipes y, z, in order to prevent loss of solvent when the ports are opened. The air withdrawn through the pipes y, z and the valve P is made good by the entry of air through the discharge orifices for the threads. Each cell is further provided with a heating jacket V. Pressure gauges are fitted at the points T1, T2 and a meter at the point S.
