Abstract

Regulating. - The power input to an electric motor 8 driving a centrifugal compressor 1 varies solely with the weight of air dis charged per minute and the air supply to the compressor is automatically con. trolled in accordance with the power input to the motor. The compressor 1 is shown connected by a discharge conduit 3 to a cupola 4, and its suction conduit 2 contains a blast gate 5 operated by an electric motor 7. This motor 7 is controlled by the switching device 11 which has an arm 12 normally equidistant from contacts 13, 14, but upon a variation of power input to the motor 8, the' arm 12 swings to touch one of the contacts 13, 14. If the resistance to flow through the cupola increases, the load on the compressor decreases and the input to the motor 8 lessens, thereby causing the switch 11 to close so that the motor 7 operates the blast gate 5 towards its closed position to bring the power input back to normal. If the cupola resistance decreases the gate 5 is moved towards its open position.
