Heating by electricity. - Rolls are heated electrically when not working by placing over them a U-shaped frame of separate copper strips 1 and connecting the end of each strip by flexible or hinged parts 14 to form a continuous helical coil through which alternating current is passed. The flexible connections 14 are hinged on a bolt 18 and are gathered together and held in spaced and insulated relationship on a bar 27 which is hooked by a chain to make the connections with the fixed connections of the plates 1 spaced on an insulated bolt 23,. a spring on the bolt assisting in making good contacts. The U- shaped frame carries an asbestos envelope 12.
