Abstract

308,032. Reynolds, J. W., and Ward, Ltd., T. W. Feb. 4, 1928. Forging nuts; shearing; shearblades.-In a nut forging or like machine of the kind in which a shearing- tool is reciprocated in guides at right angles to the axis of the die and forging-tools to sever a blank from a bar fed parallel to the axis of the forging- tools and to carry it to the die, the shearing tool slide, is reciprocated by a disc mounted obliquely on a cam shaft parallel to the shearing-tool guides and engaging a driving lug, rollers &c. on the shearing tool slide. The die 11 is mounted in the frame 10 and the nut-forming tools 12, 15, 16 are carried by slides actuated by a cam 17 and a cam on a shaft 13. The shearing- mechanism is mounted on a bracket 19 provided with guides 22 for the slide 23 carrying the shearing-tool 24 which coacts with a stationary shearing-tool 25. The slide is reciprocated by a disc 31 mounted obliquely on an extension 29 of the cam shaft 28 and engaging between rollers 32 carried by the slide 23. The disc is offset at 34 to give the slide a period of rest at each end of its travel.
