Bale-tie fasteners. - A joint for metal girths for boxes, bales barrels, &c., is formed so that the maximum deformation and interlocking occurs in the centre of the joint, while the tensile strength of the joint adjacent the ends thereof is only slightly reduced by deformation. In the form shown in Fig. 2, a sleeve A encircles the overlapping ends B, C of a steel band, and is indented at 10, 11 on opposite sides to form interlocking deformations. Three deformations 13 are made in the centre of the joint, two pairs 14 on each side thereof, and single indentations 15 adjacent the ends. In the form shown in Fig. 5, a sleeve E and overlapping ends B, are sheared relatively deeply at 20 in the centre of the joint, lesser shearings 21 having formed nearer the ends, and in Fig. 6, the deformations 22, 23 by edgewise pressure are greater than those at 24.
