Abstract

307,566. Marks, E. C. R., (Smith Corporation, A. O.). Dec. 24, 1927. Hollow-ware.-A still for distilling and cracking oils &c. is formed bv welding together the ends of thick metal plates 10 to form annular sections and welding these sections together to form a tubular structure to the ends of which heads 15, 16 are welded. The welding joints are formed by bevelling the adjacent edges of the plates to form grooves 18 or grooves on the inner as well as the outer surface which are filled with rods or slugs of welding material, the rods and edges being fused together by the carbon or metallic-arc process.
