Abstract
307,357. Sondermann & Co. March 5, 1928, [Convention date]. Reeling machines. -Freshly s p u n threads of artificial silk from the spinning bath are reeled without doubling in close set, quicktraverse turns free from gaps and preferably in thick layers. The resulting compact cheeses are removed from the reeling device with- 'out being tied and are subjected to treatment with liquids. The threads, instead of being wound in the normal manner as shown in Fig. 2, with gaps o for intertwining the skein threads d, are wound on rollers or reels of roller type provided with particularly broad supporting surfaces a, Fig. 1, in quick-traverse compactly disposed turns b. The threads may be wound on single reels or several threads separated by intermediate spaces may be wound on longer reels or rollers. Pervious backings such as felt, fabric or wire gauze may be applied to the reels and taken off with the cheeses of yarn, which can easily be removed without being tied in skeins, for example, by reducing the peripheral dimensions of the reel. The cheeses offer considerable resistance to damage of the threads owing to their compact winding and the thicker layer of threads assures increased length between knots and therefore fewer interruptions in the spinning process, necessitated by changing the reeling appliances. The cheeses are then treated with liquids. The cheeses may be drained in a centrifuge but they may be dried directly by transferring the frames to the drying apparatus. Cheeses treated in the manner described can be unwound very quickly, when placed on suitable apparatus such as drums, winding crowns or plates, in either a lateral or radially inward direction, and may be subjected to any further process, such as doubling, during the unwinding operation.
