Abstract

307,204. Lymn, A. H., Bowater, N. J., and Chamber Ovens, Ltd. Feb. 25, 1928. Discharging; cooling discharged materials.-In coke-quenching apparatus of the kind in which a stream of running water serves both to quench the coke and to convey it to a discharge point, a chamber B is arranged to receive the entire charge of coke from one of the retorts A and to deliver it gradually, and at a rate controlled by valves K or the like, into the water trough C. The quenching period is regulated by varying the velocity of the water stream or where as shown a movable receiver B is employed, the coke is discharged into the trough C at the appropriate point to give the desired quenching time. The quenched coke is removed from the trough and delivered to trucks F by an elevator E, while the water, after flowing over a weir G into a settling-tank H is returned by a pump to the conduit J supplying the trough C. Specification 293,916 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
