Abstract
306,545. Krantz, H. [Firm of]. Feb. 24, 1928, [Convention date]. Driving; casings.-Controlling means for a centrifugal extractor comprises a timing mechanism for releasing a latch after a pre-determined length of operation of the extractor; the release of the latch permits the stopping devices to operate and allows the timing mechanism to move into the starting position. A bracket b secured to the extractor casing a carries a sliding bolt 3 provided with a rack 3'. The hand lever 1 carries a pinion 2 engaging the rack, and is also connected by a link 7 to a bell-crank lever 8. One arm of the bell-crank is connected to the belt-shifting mechanism 10, and another arm is connected to the lever 14 of the band brake 15 of the extractor basket c. The upper end of the bolt 3 is notched to receive the projection 4<1> of the latch 4, and the end 4" of the latch is in a position where it can engage a cam 18 on the timing disc 16 driven from the extractor spindle. When the extractor is at rest the parts are in the position in Fig 3. Closing the cover of the extractor withdraws the locking pin 21 from the bolt 3 and the handle 1 is then depressed. This releases the brake and also moves the driving belt from the loose pulley 11 to the fast pulley 12 to start the machine. The bolt 3 is also raised against the action of the spring 6, and is held raised by the latch 4. The extractor rotates the disc 16 until the cam 18 reaches the latch when the latter is tripped and the bolt 3 is released. The spring 6 pulls the bolt down to throw the belt to the loose pulley, and to put on the brake. The machine stops with the cam in the position shown in Fig 3 with the apparatus ready for re-starting. If a period of travel is desired shorter than that fixed by one revolution of the disc 16, additional cams may be attached to the disc. A pin 26 is provided to hold the bolt in a position where the brake is released to enable the basket to be rotated by hand.
