Abstract

306,285. Hansen, H. C. Feb. 23, 1928. Coin action, mechanical-connection; testing coins.-A releasing device for coin-freed vending machines of the kind that will distinguish between flanged and unflanged coins, comprises a lever 3, 4, Fig. 1, connected to the drawer or opening member of the machine and co-operating with a lever 39, 40 connected to a slide 30 which moves the coin, the coin being seized by feelers 54, Fig. 2, and, if it has a flange, causing the lever 39, 40 to be moved so that the opening member can be fully actuated. If the coin has not got a flange, the nose 42 of the arm 40 blocks the movement of the arm 4 and prevents the opening of the delivery member. The lever 3, 4 is pivoted at 2 and the arm 4 is provided with portions 8, 14 concentric with the pivot, a shoulder 11 and an incline 13. A roller 17, cooperating with the nose 42, is secured to a branch 15 of the arm 4, the arm also having secured to it a plate 19 with a flange 20 concentric with the pivot 2. A lever 45 pivoted at 46 and having a roller 47 is held by a spring 48 against a stop 490, the upper end of this lever passing through a slot in a table 26 and through a slot 21, Fig. 2, in the slide 30 to constitute the bottom of a coin pocket. The arm 39 of the lever 39, 40 also passes through slots in the table and slide. The sides of the coin pocket are formed by plates 53 fixed to the table, and its ends by a screw 34 passing through the upturned end 31 of the slide, and by members 51, 52 secured to the slide. The end 31 forms a stop against which the feelers 54 are pulled by springs 57, so that beaks 59 on the feelers are sufficiently separated to allow the passage of a coin into the pocket. If a flanged coin be inserted, the fresh movement of the opening member withdraws the roller 17 so that the arm 39, pulled by a spring 43, moves the slide 30 to the right in Figs. 1 and 2, thereby allowing the beaks 59 to grip the coin flange. This stops the movement of the slide and allows the incline 13 to act on the nose 42 to return the arm 39 and the slide. Continued movement of the lever arm 4 brings the curved flange 20 into co-operation with the roller 47 so that the lever 45 is moved for the coin, released by the feelers, to drop to the left of it into a money-box. When the opening number of the machine is closed, the springs 43, 48 and a spring controlled arm 22 restores the lever system to normal position. If the coin has not got a flange, the slide 30 moves to the right carrying the coin with it, and the nose 42 drops so far that it engages the shoulder 11 and prevents further movement of the opening member. The coin is carried to the right of the lever 45 and drops to a return shoot.
