Abstract
306,159. B³ttner, A., and Schnellpressenfabrik Akt.-Ges. Heidelberg. Sept. 14, 1927. Cylinder machines; gripper mechanism.-A stop-cylinder printing-machine of the kind in which the sheets are delivered from the impression cylinder in a rearward direction by means such as reciprocating grippers q carried by endless chains r is constructed with grippers a, a' for holding the rear edge of the sheet during the printing operation, the front edge being held by grippers y mounted in the impression cylinder. For dealing with sheets of different sizes, the grippers a, a<1> are mounted on levers b<1>, Fig. 2, pivoted to a shaft m carried by rocking levers 'b which are moved from their delivery position shown towards the grippers y by means of mechanism which can be adjusted so that the grippers a, a' seize sheets of different sizes at their rear edges correctly. The levers b are freely mounted on the axle x<1> of the impression cylinder, and are connected by links c with a pair of levers d pivoted in the impression cylinder. The levers d are oscillated at the desired times by a cam g which can rotate in the machine frame, and engages a roller in an arm f on the shaft e of the levers d. In order to vary the extent of movement imparted to the levers b by the levers d, the pivots l on links care movable in slots d<2> in the levers by means of a graduated disc h connected by spur gears h<1>, h<2> to a gear sector integral with the pivots l. The pivots l are moved to the bottom of the slots in the levers d when a large movement is required to bring the grippers a, a' into position to engage a short sheet. When the printing operation is completed, the grippers a, a<1> pull the sheet away from the opened grippers y, and in all cases the rear edge of the sheet is carried to the same position to be gripped by the grippers q. The grippers a, a<1> are moved to and from the cylinder by means of a cam which acts on a roller on an arm n<1> of a lever n connected by a link o to the lever b<1>. The clamping member a<1> of the grippers is normally closed by springs a<3> and is opened for delivery by a fixed cam a', and for taking the unprinted sheet by an oscillating cam a<5>.
