Abstract

305,969. Hilton, T. Sept. 13, 1927. Helical springs consist of at least two sets of integral convolutions, one set being of other than cylindrical contour and having convolutions of constant pitch, while the two portions of the spring are of different pitches. In the example shown in Fig. 1, a conical portion 3 is integral with a small cylindrical portion 4 having convolutions of closer pitch. Fig. 2 shows a conical spring, the large portion 3 having convolutions of constant pitch but greater than the pitch of the convolutions of the small portion 4. Various examples of conical and cylindrical combinations are shown.
