Abstract
305,417. Spardel, E. April 28,1928. Catamenial appliances pessaries.-A catamenia appliance comprises a pouch d connected by a tube b terminating in a funnel a adapted to be inserted in the vagina and to lie against the uterus. The funnel a is of soft rubber, and is provided with annular ribs a<1> below which its thickness increases gradually to the junction with the tube b. The funnel is turned back before insertion to an extent limited by a rib b<1> integral with or secured to the tube b, and springs back on removal of the pressure after insertion. The lower end of the tube b is provided with ribs b<2> over which is sprung a bush c<2> on a shallow elliptical cup c of comparatively rigid material having a beading d' over which the pouch d is sprung. The cup c is provided with apertures c<3> near the bush c<2>. The pouch d may contain absorbent material. The longer side of the pouch is mounted in front. The appliancemay be used as a pessary; in this case an ointment or cotton saturated with a medicament may be inserted in the funnel a. The pouch d may be replaced by a soft rubber bag which may be secured in position by stretching over the flange b<1>.
