Abstract

305,252. Jagenberg, E. Nov. 1, 1927. Machines for assembling box parts. In a machine for applying.the lids or covers to body parts automatically and in rapid sequence, the body parts, after being brought to the point at which assemblage takes place, remain stationary in a horizontal position and the lids are then fitted from above by means of guide members; by this arrangement lids can be fitted on to filled boxes. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the body parts 3 and lids 4 are fed by parallel staggered belts 1, 2 respectively' into guide channels arranged transversely to the belts; a pusher device 8, 9 then moves the parts against stops to the assembly position where the lid 4 is supported on spring-controlled pivoted rails 13 and the body part 3 over apertures 23 in a table 24. A rod 14, carrying pivoted levers 17 spring- pressed against a plate 18 on a rod 19, is then moved upwards and spring fingers 22 on the levers 17 pass through apertures 23 and enter the cover 4 which, with the fingers, is moved downwards by a plunger 25, past the rails 13 on to the body part 3; the fingers and plunger then return to their original positions. The plate 18 may be actuated during the upward movement of the fingers to move the latter inwards to press the sides of the part 3 slightly inwards and during the downward movement of the fingers, they are pressed outwards to bend the edges of the lid slightly outwards. The assembled box is pushed past a cam-operated stop 10 on to a shoot &c. 27 by a succeeding body part and may then be led to a labelling machine. The parts of the machine may be adjustable to allow for varying sizes of boxes and the spring fingers may be arranged to fit the lids of oval or round boxes. The edges of the box parts may be pressed in before they are fed to the assembling position by plungers provided with spherical heads. The assembled boxes may be moved through channels fitted with spring-pressed rollers which press the sides of the boxes inwards and rectify any alterations in the shape thereof. In another assembling device the lids are fed sidewavs into a threesided pivoted frame, which, with a lid is swung downwards through 90‹ to fit the lid on to a bodv part fed beneath it or the frame may be arranged to swing through 180‹ when the lids are fed into it with the tops underneath. In a further form the lids are fed into a tapering guide shaft disposed over the assembling point, a plunger then pushing the lid on to a body part.
