Abstract

304,925. Dover, H. W. Feb. 3, 1928. End and stirrup, hinged and insulated handles. -A hand-grip or handle for use in railway carriages or other vehicles or on drag ropes or for other purposes is formed from a length of metal tubing a flattened towards its ends and enclosed in a covering e, of non-inflammable celluloid-like material, the tube being bent to a bowed shape, while the ends c are arranged parallel to each other and are passed firstly through a cup-like bearing i having lugs k by which it may be attached to the vehicle roof or similar support n, and secondly through an aperture in a hemispherical boss o forming a universal joint with the bearing j, the ends of the tube a being subsequently swaged out to prevent their withdrawal. A volute spring p having one end q bearing against the support n and the other end gripped between the boss o and ends of the tube a is arranged within the bearing j to prevent undue swinging of the hand-grip when not in use.
