Abstract

304,898. Bartley, J. M. Jan. 2, 1928. Vaporizers, external.-Liquid fuel is gasefied in a chamber 9 which surrounds an exhaust pipe 3 and receives its fuel from a float chamber 25 delivering into a pipe line containing controlling valves 32, 29. The needle valve 29 is actuated by a cam 30 controlled by an arm 31. Gas from the chamber 9 is conveyed past a rotating plate valve 16 to a pipe 23 terminating in a nozzle 5 located in a chamber 4 to which cold air for the formation of a combustible mixture is admitted through orifices 10 controlled by a ported disc 11. A linkage 13, 20 connects the valves 11, 16, the member 20 being adjustable to permit the relative openings of the valves to be varied. The regulating mechanism of the valve 16 is also connected by a link 21<a> to a throttle valve 24 located in the exhaust pipe, the throttle valve being controlled by a foot lever. The valve 16 and the member 31 which actuates the needle-valve cam 30 are inter-connected by a rod 19. At starting, liquid fuel is supplied direct to the chamber 4 through a needle valve 36 supplied by a pipe 34 controlled by the two-way valve 32. Fuel is fed to the float chamber through a passage 37 and the float carries a valve 38 which seats at both ends. A skirt 42 on the float prevents damage from back-firing; it also prevents fuel passing in an upward direction.
