Abstract

304,516. Domenico, A. March 28, 1928. Interlocking, and guarding against wrong movements.- A one - way brake device which normally prevents reverse movement of a car is controlled by the gear lever so that when the gear is in reverse the brake is put out of action and permits movement in both directions. The gearbox shaft 10 carries a disc 19 connected by a one-way roller clutch 24 to a freely-mounted ring 21 which is adapted to be engaged by rollers 39 working in inclined recesses in a pivoted shoe 29. The gear selector shaft 18 normally slides over the shoe at 34 and presses the shoe down on to the ring 21, so that if the shaft 10 tends to run backwards the disc 19 is locked to the ring and the ring is locked to the shoe and thus the shaft is prevented from reverse movement. When the gear lever is moved to the reverse position the shaft 18 slides free of the shoe and the latter is raised clear of the ring 21 by a spring 33, so that the shaft 10 is then free to turn in either direction.
