Cow-milkers.-In milking apparatus wherein one or more machines draw milk from the udders and means are provided for conveying the milk to an urn or other container, a cooling system, such as a nest of coils or a jacket supplied with a cooling medium, is provided to cool the milk in its passage through such conveying means. In order that the milk may flow into the container it is normally sealed and exhausted to any desired degree of vacuum. The pipe conveying the milk from the machines may pass through a water jacket and then through a brine jacket; or the milk pipe 1 may extend into the upper end of a cooling chamber 9 wherein are located coils 10, 11 cooled respectively by water and brine streams introduced at 3, 7 and leaving at 4, 8. The chamber 9 is arranged within a casing 12 detachably clamped to the upper end of a container 16 having an inlet 19 adapted to be closed from the outside by the operation of a hand-wheel 21. The container is lagged with heat-insulating material 22 and has spigots 23 to be supported by a wheeled carriage to facilitate transport. A pipe 12<1> provides for the exhaustion of the container, and as the milk leaves the chamber 9 it is filtered by the part 17. In a modified construction wherein the chamber 9 is not secured to a container, the milk is delivered from such chamber to two containers by two flexible pipes fitted with cocks, there being further cocks on the upper ends of the containers. The cold-jacket cooling system or the casing 12 may be fitted to, or attached to the end of, the milking shed set out in Specification 303,914, the pipes circulating the water and the brine being extended through the shed to an engine hut and the water pipes connected to a radiator through which air is drawn by a fan.
