Abstract
575,593. Drying air and gases. FRIGIDAIRE, Ltd., and MURDOCH, A. C. March 29, 1944, No. 5752. [Class 34 (i)] Apparatus for drying air or gas comprises a plurality of coaxial cooler coils over which the air &c. is passed and on which the moisture therein condenses, heater means being provided for defrosting the apparatus when necessary. Preferably inner and outer coils e, f are employed, the lower ends of the two coils being connected and their upper ends being in communication with the flow and return sides of a refrigerator system. The coil e is mounted within a sheath g on the axial air intake pipe b of the apparatus and the coil f on an outer casing a which has an outlet c at its upper end adapted for connection to a vacuum pump and, at its lower end, a drainage outlet, not shown, for moisture, a cylindrical baffle d being provided between said intake b and casing a so that the air changes direction as shown by the dotted arrows in its passage through the apparatus. The heater means for defrosting may be in the form of coils h which are interwound with the cooling coils and incorporate electric resistance elements or are in the form of tubes through which a fluid heating medium may be passed. According to the Provisional Specification the coils e, f may be replaced by jackets.
