Abstract

304,342. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Zweigbergk, G. Oct. 17, 1927. Electric locomotives.-In flexible couplings for conveying drive from the gear-wheel 1 of an electric locomotive to the track-wheel 2, Figs. 1 and 2, an intermediate member 5 is provided, having two perpendicular pairs of aligned slots with cylindrical seating 8, 10 to receive respectively spherical rollers 3, 6, which are revoluble on pins 4, 7, extending from the wheels 1, 2. To allow axial freedom, one pair of rollers may slide on their pins. As shown, the rollers 6 are slidable. Where a single or double motor drive is disposed within the vehicle frame, the wheel or wheels 1 are carried on a quill surrounding the axle 9. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement suitable for narrow-gauge vehicles, In which two readilydismountable vertical electromotors 12 are carried outside the frame and drive, by the bevel gears 1, shafts 11 supported in bracket-extensions of the frame. The shafts 11 carry members' 13, provided with the pins 4, the pins 7 extending outwardly from'the track-wheels 2.
