Stop-gear.-A stop-gear for a reversible engine comprises a wheel A which drives a valve-operating cam shaft B through centrifugally-controlled latch-mechanism and is supported by a hub C keyed to the shaft B. Latch members G, H with weighted tails are pivcted to the hub C and engage notches J, K in the wheel A. Springs Q hold the members G, H in action. Spring-pressed pivoted latches T, U hold the ends of the members G, H when they are swung out by centrifugal force and release the wheel A. A pin b limits the movement of the wheel A on the hub C. The relative movement retards the valve events by 110‹ so that the compression is insufficient to effect ignition.
