Abstract
302,744. United Water Softeners, Ltd., and Lawrence, H. S. Sept. 29, 1927. Purifying Liquids.- Salt for regenerating base-exchange material in watersoftening apparatus is moistened, so as to convert it into a sludge or slurry, and drawn into the apparatus by means of an ejector. Crude water enters a treating vessel 1 through a pipe 2, valve 3, ejector 4 and pipe 5. The suction inlet of the ejector communicates by a pipe 6 fitted with a valve 7 with a point near the bottom of a small box 8. A fourway connection 11 is in communication with the lower part of the vessel 1, through a valve 16 with the outlet pipe 15 for softened water, through a valve 14 with a waste outlet pipe 13, and through a. valve 10 with the pipe 2. Normally water enters through the pipe 2 and passes away through the pipe 15. For regeneration, salt is placed in the box 8, and the valve 7 slightly opened. The system being under pressure water will flow through the pipe 6 and slurry will be formed in the box. The valve 16 is next closed and the valve 14 opened. The slurry will be drawn through the ejector and the base-exchange material regenerated. Washing will follow, the wash water also passing away through the pipe 13. When a back wash is desired the valve 3 is closed and the valve 10 opened, the wash water in this case passing away through a pipe 17.
