Abstract

302,693. Associated Telephone & Telegraph Co. Dec. 20, 1927, [Convention date.]. Hand-combination sets; mouthpieces. - In a hand-combination set having the transmitter and receiver casings and handle formed of a single moulding, the portion of the handle between the casings is straight while the opposite, portion is - curved substantially so that it would meet the straight portion, if extended, just beyond the centre of the casings, the axes of which are inclined at an angle of about 80‹ to the straight portion. The handle is circular throughout its length. In the construction shown, the handset comprises a single moulding including a handle 10, receiver casing 11 and transmitter casing 12. A brass &c. tube 13, incorporated in the moulding serves to reinforce the handle and as a passage for the receiver conductors. The receiver cap 15 and mouthpiece 16 are screwed directly on the casings 11, 12. The mouthpiece 16 may comprise a perforated hemispherical portion 17 with a dented in conical portion 18. Alternatively, it may comprise a series of surfaces resembling the surfaces of quarter-spheres pressed out from a flat metal blank so that one flat side of each quarter sphere faces radially outwards and the other flat side faces the microphone.
