Pigments. - A process of making composite pigments, or paints containing same, comprises associating titanium dioxide separated by hydrolysis from sulphuric acid solutions and dehydrated by heat, with a sufficient quantity of barium carbonate to provide a content of more than 10 per cent and preferably 10-30 per cent of barium carbonate in the resulting composite pigment. Precipitated barium carbonate is preferably employed and is ground before or after mixing with the pigment. To form paints the composite pigments, especially when using unground barium carbonate, may be ground with just more than sufficient linseed oil or other medium to form a paste. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the addition of barium carbonate, by adding it in amounts more than sufficient to neutralize acid remaining in the dehydrated titanium dioxide. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
