Stationary mixers with rotary stirrers.-A mixing or grinding apparatus consists of a vessel in which a pair of propellers of opposite pitch are rotated at different speeds about coaxial axes in conjunction with fixed breaker bars. The propellers a, a<1>, mounted on the shafts c, c<1>, are driven by gearing c<11>, C<111> from a pulley d, the propellers depending into a jacketed vessel b, and being bodily removable therefrom together with the gearing. The breaker bars k are of crescentshaped section and are serrated in the vicinity of the propellers. More than two propellers may be provided.
