302,411. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Sept. 22, 1927. Esters of higher fatty acids with polyhydric alcohols such as glycerine are produced by esterifying the acid with the alcohol in presence of a metallic soap. Soaps of aluminium, magnesium, tin, and zinc are suitable. In the examples, the fatty acids of pea nut oil prepared as described in Example 1 of Specification 213,267, [Class 32, Distilling &c.], are esterified with glycerine in presence of the tin compound of the same acids, at 180-250‹ C. in a high vacuum; and the fatty acids of olive oil are esterified with glycerine in presence of magnesium oleate in a similar manner.
