Diaphgrams.-A diaphragm for loud-speakers, gramophones, miorophones &c. comprises a sheet of relatively stiff material, such as strong paper, celluloid, metal &c., folded along a straight line and then partially unfolded, the sheet being subsequently deformed so as to present a conical surface by pressure applied to a point on the line of fold. Fig. 1 shows one form of diaphragm in which the sheet A A<1>, B B<1> is folded along the line O O<1>. Vibrations may be imparted to the sheet at any point on its surface, e.g. at the point M in the direction of the arrow P. In the modified construction, Fig. 2, the sheet originally circular in shape is folded along a diameter AOB and deformed into a conical shape by pressure at the centre O. Vibrations may be imparted to the diaphragm at its apex, but preferably at either or both ends of the line AOB and in the direction of this line. When vibrations are imparted to the diaphragm at one end of the line AOB, the other end is preferably fixed.
