Abstract

302,001. Walker, J. R. Oct. 10, 1927. Railways and tracks for recreation : roundabouts.-Passenger-carrying cars, capable of movement transversely of the track, are attached to trolleys which are moved around an endless overhead track by a conveyer chain or by electric driving means carried on one of the trolleys. The track is in the form of two semi-circles joined by straight lines and is supported by mast structures at the centres of the semi-circles. Attached to the track 11 is an I sectional girder 12 on the lower flange of which run wheels 18 journaled in plates 17, which are attached by distance pieces and form the trolley. This trolley carries a shackle 19 for freely suspending the passenger car and it.is also attached by links to the trolleys immediately in front of and behind it to form a train. One of the trolleys carries an electric motor geared to one of the wheels 18; the current for this motor being picked up from conductor strips 15. A grooved roller 25 in each trolley thrusts against the girder flange, as the cars swing out at the curved parts of the track; wheels 26 on the plates 17 run along the web of the girder to prevent the trolley rocking. The motor or motors may, alternatively, drive directly on the lower surface of the girder, either by friction or by a rack on the lower girder flange. In a modification, Fig. 8, the trolleys 16 are connected to a driving chain or band 29 driven from sprocket wheels 30.
