Abstract

301,890. Schaer, C. Dec. 8, 1927, [Convention date]. Plant, general arrangement of.-A high pressure installation comprises a turbo-compressor 1 in the first stage, a mechanically operated reciprocating compressor 4 in the second stage, and a reciprocating compressor 6 actuated through an oscillating column of liquid in the third stage. The volume of liquid in the third stage is varied by means of regulating valves 16, to vary the compressor working without altering the working of the engine driving it. When the first stage of compression is not required, the use of a bye-pass is avoided by drawing the air into the compressor 4 through the stationary turbo-compressor. Each stage of compression may be effected by several compressors in parallel, and each compressor may comprise several sub-stages.
