Abstract

301,519. Waller, P. H. Aug. 2, 1927, Road-traffic signals on vehicles.-Relates to appuratus in which the signal is first operated by a manual switch retained by electromagnetic means, this control being subsequently released and taken over by a switch operated by the steering gear, and consists in providing a manually operated master element constructed so as to constitute itself a retaining electromagnet when moved to make a signal circuit which electromagnet is de-energized when the element is cut out of the signal circuit or the latter opened. A hand lever 3 pivoted on a universal joint 1 in a casing 2 carries a coil 4 and is under the action of return springs 5, 6 which tend to keep it in normal position. The signal circuits are made by moving the lever so that one of the contacts 8 - - 11 carried by the lever engages the corresponding contact of a series 12 - - 15 connected to signal circuit, terminals 17 - - 20, thus causing the signal to be given and energizing the coil 4 by means of which a surrounding ring 7 becomes a magnet and retains the lever in the signal position until the coil 4 is de-energized when the signals are taken over by an automatic control as for example those described in Specification 301,521.
