Abstract
300,232. Wade, H. (Sullivan Machinery Co.). Aug. 9, 1927. Coal-cutting machines.-In a coal &c. cutting machine with a motor housing and an adjacent chamber containing gearing driven from the motor, an interposed compartment is provided between the housing and gear chamber and is adapted to intercept oil leaking from the gear chamber to the housing, and means are provided automatically to discharge oil from the compartment. As shown, a compartment 18 is provided between the motor housing and a chamber 17 containing the main parts of the feed mechanism, the motor shaft 20 extending into the compartment 18 which contains the initial elements 21, 22, 24 of the feed mechanism. Leather washers 28, 29 restrict passage of oil through the walls of the compartment 18, while the oil level in the compartment is kept below the motor shaft by the gears therein throwing up the oil, which is caught by a spout 32 and returned to the compartment 17. An auxiliary conduit may be provided to discharge from the motor housing oil which passes thereto when the machine is stationary.
