Abstract
298,594. Sieurin, P. W. Oct. 12, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Publised under Sect. 91 of the Acts.] Cranes and winches, arrangement of.- Relates to means for handling cargo in which the load hook 28 is connected with two hoisting ropes 13 suspended from two derricks 2, 3 which are held over the wharf and the hold respectively by guy ropes 12, 11 and the two ropes 13 are manipulated by two winches or by the two drums 14, 15 of a single winch such as that described in Specification 262,385, [Class 78 (v), Winding and paying-out apparatus &c.]. To permit loading or unloading at the same side of the hatch with two pairs of derricks, one derrick 4 of the second pair 4, 5 is mounted at the opposite end of the hatch, and the hoisting cables 19, 23 pass over sheaves 21, 26 on the derricks, the cable 23 being led from the sheave 26 on derrick 4 to the winch over a sheave 25 on the derrick 5. The derricks 4, 5 are secured by guy ropes 17, 18. The derricks may be lowered to rest on the beams 9, 10 when not in use, and the two derricks 3, 4 may be provided with end fittings such that either derrick may be erected at either end of the hatchway to permit of unloading at either side of the ship or at both sides. Alternatively, the four derricks may be used always at one end of the hatchway, and an extra derrick may be used at the other end to co-operate with the derrick 2 or the derrick 5.
