Abstract
297,484. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). May 23, 1927. Hydroxyamines.-Amines containing hydroaromatic and aliphatic radicles and a hydroxyl group in at least one aliphatic radicle are prepared by condensing hydroaromatic ketones or oxides with aliphatic amino-hydroxy compounds, or by condensing hydroaromatic amines with alkylene oxides or with aliphatic hydroxy compounds containing a halogen, aldehyde or ketone group. Simultaneous or subsequent reduction is necessary when aldehydic and ketonic compounds are employed. Thus, cyclohexylethanolamine together with diethanolcyclohexylamine is obtained by the action on : glycol chlorhydrin of ethylene oxide on cyclohexylamine, or by the action of cyclohexanone on ethanolamine with simultaneous or subsequent reduction with hydrogen in the pressure of nickel, and examples are given of these processes; homologues of the reactants may be also employed, e.g. methylcyclohexanone, propanolamine and butanolamine. Again, tetrahydrobenzene oxide may be condensed with aliphatic amines containing hydrooxyl groups; or hydroxyaldebydes and hydroxyketones, such as aldol or sugars, may be treated with hydroaromatic amines, followed by hydrogenation. The products are useful for destroying insects, germs, fungi, &c., and as preservative agents for proteids and the like. Their acidyl compounds may be used as softening agents or camphor substitutes.
