Apparatus for making filaments.- To obtain an increased output from a spinning frame, the number of spinning elements 1, which are arranged in a row, is increased and the necessarily increased number of centrifuges 8, 8<1> are arranged in two or more rows. It is convenient so to arrange the rows of centrifuges that those of one row are opposite the gaps of an adjacent row as shown in Fig. 5. The rows of centrifuges may also be placed on both sides of the rows of spinning elements, or the centrifuges may be arranged in the form of steps sloping upwards. The guide rollers or equivalent devices 6, 6<1> associated with the centrifuges may be accommodated on a single shaft, as shown in Fig. 1, in which case the threads travel in an oblique direction to the centrifuges, or they may be on shafts corresponding in number with the rows of centrifuges, the threads then falling vertically. In a stretchspinning frame, the threads pass through - acidifying-baths 5, Figs. 3 and 4, and may be then either wrapped around rollers 6, 6<1>, Fig. 3, or they may be led round rollers 10, Fig. 4, up to the rollers 6, 6<1>, in which case one of the latter rollers may be mounted on a transverse shaft as shown.
