Abstract
296,801. Graham, E. C. June 7, 1927. Float valves; dirt, excluding.-Apparatus for intermittently controlling a water supply to spraying- apparatus for golf greens &c. comprises a water supply pipe 12, Fig. 1, connected to the sprinklers &c. through its outlet 55, mounted in a tank 11 and provided with a regulable bye-pass 30 through which the tank slowly fills. A double beat valve 13 in the pipe 12 is operated by a lever 29 when a float 22 reaches a predetermined height which may be regulated by a ratchet 27. When the valve 13 is open water is delivered to the sprinkler until water through the bye-pass 31 has filled the tank 11 to such a height as to cause a syphon 28 to empty the tank, when the float 24 falls closing the valve 13. In order that the syphon 28 may work promptly a second float 32 rises to open a valve 36 in the pipe 12. To stop the apparatus working in case of rain the bye-pass 30 has in it a cock 39 operated by a trough 41, Fig. 2, which fills through an opening 43 in the lid of the tank, and tilts when filled to close the cock 39 and thus prevent water entering the tank 11. To prevent entry of dirt, a hinged lid 45 is provided for the hole 43, normally held open by a rod 46 on the rain trough 41 but which closes automatically as soon as the trough 41 is filled so as to tilt the lid 45.
