Abstract

296,631. Karlinski, J. Feb. 4, 1928. Board games.-Relates to games of the type in which a visible, acoustic, or other signal is actuated when electric contacts corresponding to a question and the correct answer are connected together. As shown in Fig. 1, a map is provided with contacts a - - d, A - - D corresponding to the sources and mouths of rivers 1 - - 4, these contacts being connected bv invisible connections to other contacts 5 - - 12. The names of the rivers are placed opposite the corresponding contacts 5 - - 12. In use, the desired contacts 5 - - 12 are connected together by conductors connected to a battery 21 and signal 22, and a flexible conductor 27 is employed to complete the circuit. In a modification, pairs of contacts, adapted to be bridged by a plug or the like, are arranged round the margin of the map, and the names of towns are located adjacent the contacts. One contact of each pair is connected by invisible connections to contact at the position of the corresponding town on the map, and the other to a contact opposite which is the name of the river on which the town stands. In a further modification, a number of contacts 58, 59, Fig. 3, corresponding respectively to questions and answers, are arranged near the edges and in the centre of a card 57, the corresponding question and answer contacts being connected together. A second card, perforated in such a way that when any question contact 58 is exposed through an aperture, the corresponding answer contact is exposed through another aperture, is provided for application to the card 57. In a device for teaching spelling, a series of exposed contacts 68-75, adjustable contact strips 79 - - 82, and invisible connections 66, 67, 76, 77, 78, arranged as shown in Fig. 5, and a number of bricks having interconnected contacts corresponding with the contacts 69, 71, 73, 75 and 79 - - 82 are used. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 16197/84, 6654/85, [both in Class 146, Writing-instruments &c.] ; and 189,083.
