Pumping-machines, casings, dynamo-electric machines.-A motor pump set has an electric motor and pump on the same shaft; the upper part of the casing is secured to the lower part by a bayonet joint and the casing encloses supports for spare motor brushes and an arrangement of ball bearings under spring pressure. The shaft 1 is supported in ball bearings 2, 9 the outer races of which have outer surfaces forming parts of spheres and which engage with conical surfaces in members 13, 26 respectively. A spring 5 tends to force the bearings apart and to keep the spherical and conical surfaces in close engagement. A flexible washer 59 is arranged beneath the upper bearing 2 and similar washers 60 are placed above and below the lower bearing 9. The rotor 6 of the motor has windings 7 and is secured to the shaft 1 with the fan wheel 8. The stator of the motor has windings 22 and is held between the shoulder 18 on the casing 12 and the gudgeon pins or stub screws 20. The stator is formed of plates clamped between two discs 21 and secured by fastenings of double T-shaped with their heads in recesses in the discs. The member 26 containing the lower conical bearing surface is held between the shoulder 25 and the stub screws 28. The commutator brushes 15 are detachably secured to resilient supports 16 and two supports 17 are provided for two reserve brushes. The pump impeller 11 is secured to the bottom of the shaft 1 and is enclosed by a two-part casing 30, 31; the upper part 30 includes the volute 34 and the lower part 31 carries the suction pipe 33 and delivery pipe 32. The part 30 has a collar 35 enclosing a packing ring 36 consisting of mixed material, as for instance graphite and synthetic resin, held against a washer 38 on the shaft by the pressure of a spring 37. The pump can be primed by water from the funnel 39 flowing through the pipe 41 when the plug 42 is unscrewed for a certain distance.
